Description

The set includes 8 references from the Model Air range in 17 ml format for painting camouflage patterns on combat vehicles, trucks or artillery pieces of the Regio Esercito, operating during the Second World War.

The Italian army didn't have exact chromatic correspondence maps; we know certain tones and their names from written records, as do the names of certain defined references, but with somewhat vague descriptions and isolated records of fairly rigorous restorations carried out in military museums. Since the 1930s, we can already find disruptive camouflage patterns, applied to the dark green tone used as a base in many Ansaldo models. From 1940 onwards, light green began to be used as a base color, over which reddish sand or terracotta patches were applied. The combinations evolved into very elaborate patterns, reaching up to four different tones, creating "amoeba" or disruptive patterns with sinuous, shingle-like shapes.

We've taken a few well-preserved color photos and expert restorations of the vehicles on display at the Musée de Saumur as a reference, to define the nuances of the best-known tones.
